Breast Augmentation

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, also known as Augmentation Mammaplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance breast size through the use of artificial implants or fat grafting. This surgery aims to achieve fuller, firmer, and larger breasts, restoring a harmonious balance to a woman’s overall figure.

The augmentation of breast volume is typically achieved by inserting soft silicone implants through various surgical approaches. Alternatively, some women opt for breast volume enhancement through fat grafting. This involves the extraction of fat from areas where it may be undesirable, followed by the injection of this fat into the breasts.

What are the types of Breast Implants?

Silicone Implant:

Silicone breast implants consist of a soft silicone gel that closely resembles the look and feel of natural breast tissue.

Saline Implant:

Filled with sterile saline (saltwater) post-insertion into the breast pocket, saline implants may have a firmer feel compared to silicone implants and can exhibit a more noticeable ripple effect.

Gummy Bear Implants:

Gummy bear implants are characterized by a denser and more cohesive silicone gel, designed to resist rupture and displacement while providing a natural look and feel.

Structured Saline Implants:

Structured saline implants are a variation of saline implants featuring an internal structure that contributes to maintaining the implant’s shape.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer augmentation, also referred to as autologous fat grafting, represents an innovative breast augmentation method utilizing the body’s own fat to enhance both size and shape. In this procedure, fat is harvested from donor areas like the abdomen or thighs and then injected into the breasts. Compared to traditional breast implants, fat transfer augmentation is a less invasive approach.

There are several advantages to choosing fat transfer augmentation:

It eradicates the requirement for artificial implants.

In contrast to breast implants, it eradicates the possibility of rupture, leading to breasts that have a natural feel.

Furthermore, fat grafting offers a dual advantage by enabling the extraction of excess fat from other body areas.

Procedure

This plastic surgery procedure involves the placement of breast implants either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle to enhance breast size, shape, and fullness.

In most cases, specialized cannulas are utilized for liposuction to remove fat and glandular tissue, resulting in minimal scarring. The incisions are strategically made either beneath the breast fold or within the nipple-areola complex, ensuring that the final scar remains inconspicuous. The targeted tissue is lifted, and breast implants are carefully inserted into the created pocket, followed by the closure of incisions in layers.

Recovery

After the surgery, patients can anticipate a quick return to work, typically within a few days to a week. Wearing a compressive garment with an upper pole belt is recommended for approximately three weeks, and regular exercise can usually be resumed two to three weeks post breast enlargement surgery.

Addressing patient concerns, it’s worth noting that past worries about the safety of breast implants have been largely disproven by current data. Present evidence indicates that breast implants do not elevate the risk of breast cancer or autoimmune diseases.

Furthermore, it’s reassuring to know that breast enlargement surgery should not impact a woman’s ability to breastfeed.
